Long time, no blog!

Long time, no blog!

It’s been a while, but I have reasons It’s been a long five months of silence on the project. That’s not due to inactivity, rather it’s due to overwhelming activity on the project and on a personal level. Once the ceiling was in place, I needed to get the floor in before proceeding. Late July and August was filled with a five week delay in obtaining the flooring. I changed my mind on the flooring I was going to use…

She shed ceiling is going up

She shed ceiling is going up

Yesterday I started work on the ceiling Everything came together yesterday; power, tools and time. I was able to start trimming and installing the ceiling boards finally. Do you how tough it is to hold up a 12 foot board, line it up and nail gun it in all by yourself? It wasn’t too bad because I started at the low end of the ceiling, which is 5.5 feet tall. Once I get to the point that I can no…

No power, no progress

No power, no progress

Wasn’t able to make any progress this weekend due to a power outage. While I had the best of intentions, no progress was made on the shed. I was busy all day Saturday, but had hoped to start on the ceiling Sunday afternoon. The electrician was here on Saturday and 5 minutes after he finished up and restored power to the shed, the power went out! So much for working after dark when it’s cooler outside, that takes power. I’m…

Insulation Complete!

Insulation Complete!

After a week of being delayed, the insulation job is done. Completion of the insulation installation was delayed due to family matters. I was busy clearing out my mom and dad’s house so it could be signed back to the mortgage company. They had a reverse mortgage and the house is about worth what was owed on it. The easiest thing to do was to sign it over to the mortgage company. That meant removing absolutely everything that was left…

Wall insulation today

Wall insulation today

When will it stop?!? I moved on to the wall insulation today and it’s never ending. I’m happy that I got about three quarters of it completed. I should be able to complete it tomorrow and still have time to run to my parents house and pack up some more stuff. Who knew what a big job it was to clear out a house and garage that have been occupied for 58 years! I’ll admit to being sweaty, stinky and…

Water, water everywhere!

Water, water everywhere!

Another setback Tuff Shed advised me that they couldn’t guarantee the seal on the old farmhouse windows I wanted installed because they weren’t pre-hung with the proper casing. Unfortunately, they were right. I still have a leaky window and as a result, I have to build the shed roof that I wasn’t planning on installing until next spring. The leak at the threshold of the door should be resolved with a quick adjustment. That means more outside work before I…

Forging ahead

Forging ahead

A nice warm weekend to make progress inside On Saturday and Sunday I worked to install the insulation in the roof. It was a far more difficult, time consuming and tiring job than I anticipated. I lost count of the times I went up and down the ladder, in and out of the shed and cut the 2” styrofoam insulation to fit. I think I sweated more in two days than I had in a long time. Always stay hydrated…

Shed savior arrives

Shed savior arrives

Assistant manager George arrives George came by last Monday to fix 5he egregious errors made by the team that was there to ‘complete’ the project a few days prior. He removed the door and front window and reinstalled them properly. He replaced the support under the door threshold and added a band of trim around the bottom of the shed. This certainly improved the look and George appeared, both surprised and disappointed that the group did not do that. The shed…

Trials and Tribulations

Trials and Tribulations

Not a very good week There was a week of delays and problems. The subcontractors showed up a week ago Saturday and supposedly completed the build. Later that day we had a storm and the shed leaked in three places! The door and window were not put in properly and I could see outside from the inside at both sides of the door and along one side of the window. Management steps in The assistant manager, George, decided enough was…

Did I mention??

Did I mention??

A couple more items… So on the first day of the build, they backed the trailer into my small retaining wall and shoved some of the bricks out of place. I sent pictures the next day and was told they were insured and would take care of it. I’ve talked to the office several times since then and nary a word about the bricks. They’ll fix it, believe you me! When the guys left today, they didn’t knock on my…
