The Daybed Has Arrived!
Looking high and low
I spent a great deal of time this past winter looking for just the right daybed for my shed, and that was exhausting. I could have purchased an inexpensive one from Amazon, but I wanted it to be just right. After checking a lot of places, nothing seemed to fit. It had to be solid wood and sturdy. (What happens in Koselig Helligdom, stays in Koselig Helligdom!)
The search begins
Not having any luck, I drove to Ohio and checked out an Amish furniture store. The Amish are awesome builders and I knew it would be a solid piece. Unfortunately there was nothing that met what I was going for. They quoted me over $2,500 with adjustments I wanted. I opted to seek out an Amish cabinet/custom furniture maker. I took a trip north to Vestaburg to see if they could custom make a daybed for me. Always go direct to the source for a great deal. It was fun watching the young man draw up the bed to my specifications. After nearly falling on the floor when i was quoted a price of $650 (really, I kept it cool), I wrote a check for half down and waited the 4-5 weeks to have it made.
Exactly what I was looking for!
The cabinetmaker called me earlier this week and said the the daybed would be ready for pickup on Saturday, so we set a time. I rented a cargo van this morning and drove north. I am in love with this heirloom piece of furniture! The daybed is very large, considering it’s a twin. As a result, I will have to place it in the shed before the fourth wall is installed! The final product was Well worth the search and drive.
